How to become a member

The Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department has three (3) programs for which individuals may elect to serve our community.

Click on the program for which you are interested to view a listing of rules and regulations.

Note that a background check and drug screening are required of all applicants before being admitted for membership.  Applications are accepted based on staffing needs at any given time.

Regular Membership

Regular Membership allows you to enroll in most community college courses or department sponsored courses relating to the fire or rescue service at no additional expense.  If applying for our Regular Membership Program, you have the option of becoming an EMT.  You are NOT required to be an EMT prior to becoming a member if you do not want to be a First Responder.

Junior Firefighter

If you are applying to our Junior Firefighter Program, you will need to download a Parental Consent Form and have it signed by your parent(s) or legal guardian in addition to completing the regular membership application form

First Responder

A North Carolina Certified EMT may   participate in our organization as a First Responder without being  a firefighter of our department.   Please bring a copy of your North Carolina issued EMT certificate with a completed membership application form.
